Tomorrow is MLB's edition of Black Monday, a day where teams make personnel changes such as firing coaches or managers, etc. Which managers could possibly be fired? Who's jobs are safe? We will go through every teams situation and determine who's job is safe or not.
Arizona Diamondbacks- Chief Baseball Officer Tony LaRussa fired general manager Kevin Towers, and then fired manager Kirk Gibson and bench coach Alan Trammell on Friday. Dave Stewart replaced Towers as the general manager and it would be interesting to see who he and LaRussa hire to manage this team next season.
Atlanta Braves- Atlanta fired general manager Frank Wren last week after the team was eliminated from post season contention. Reports say that manager Fredi Gonzalez's job appears to be safe.
Baltimore Orioles- Manager Buck Sholwalter's job is definitely safe after the year they're having. Credit should be given to general manager Dan Duquette for signing outfielder/designated hitter Nelson Cruz to the contract he got and some of the minor moves he made such as acquiring infielders Jimmy Paredes and Steve Pearce.
Boston Red Sox- Despite a last place finish, manager John Farrell's job will be safe. General manager Ben Cherington did a great job for landing outfielder Yoenis Cespedes in the trade that sent Jon Lester to Oakland. This team can make some noise next year with a few little offseason tweaks.
Chicago Cubs- Manager Rick Renteria's job is safe after a seven-game improvement from last season. It will be interesting to see what general manager Theo Epstein does this winter.
Chicago White Sox- I assume manager Robin Ventura's job is safe after a ten-game improvement from last year as well as general manager Rick Hahn.
Cincinnati Reds- General manager Walt Jocketty received a two-year contract extension, despite a disappointing season. No word has been said on manager Bryan Price's job security.
Cleveland Indians- There's no question that manager Terry Francona will be back next season, despite missing the postseason.
Colorado Rockies- I believe there is a chance manager Walt Weiss will be canned from his job.
Detroit Tigers- If Detroit fails to advance deep in October, general manager Dave Dombroski will get a lot of heat, along with manager Brad Ausmus. I'm pretty sure both jobs will be safe.
Houston Astros- Houston fired manager Bo Porter earlier in the month. Interim manager Tom Lawless is a candidate as well as Craig Biggio, Dave Clark, Dave Martinez, and Tony DeFrancesco.
Kansas City Royals- Now in the postseason for the first time since 1985, there is no question that manager Ned Yost will be back next season.
Los Angeles Angels- Like Kansas City's situation, there is no question that manager Mike Soscia will return next season.
Los Angeles Dodgers- If the Dodgers fail to advance deep enough this October, don't rule out the possibility of manager Don Mattingly being canned.
Miami Marlins- Miami gave manager Mike Redmond a contract extension, so his job is safe.
Milwaukee Brewers- Manager Ron Roenicke might be a surprise candidate to lose his job because of his teams collapse at the end of the year.
Minnesota Twins- I don't think manager Ron Gardenhire deserves to lose his job, so I think he's back next season.
New York Mets- General manager Sandy Alderson received a contract extension recently. Also, the word is out that manager Terry Collins will return next season.
New York Yankees- Despite a disappointing season, Brian Cashman should get his contract renewed. Word is out there that the Yankees intend to offer him an extension. There's no question manager Joe Girardi will be back next season.
Oakland Athletics- General manager Billy Beane will get a lot of heat if Oakland fails to advance far in October. Manager Bob Melvin's job is safe no matter what Oakland does in October.
Philadelphia Phillies- General manager Ruben Amaro has done a poor job in recent years by signing older and declining players to long term contracts. Manager Ryan Sandberg should be back next season, despite a disappointing season.
Pittsburgh Pirates- There is no question that manager Clint Hurdle will be back next season after making the playoffs for the second straight year.
San Diego Padres- Manager Bud Black's job maybe in jeopardy after a disappointing campaign, despite a nice second-half.
San Francisco Giants- Manager Bruce Bochy will be back after making the post season after missing it in 2013.
Seattle Mariners- Despite missing the playoffs and overachieving, manager Lloyd McClendon will be back next season.
St. Louis Cardinals- St. Louis is where they deserve to be, which is in October, so manager Mike Matheny is no question safe.
Tampa Bay Rays- Despite a disappointing season, Tampa Bay will no way and no how get rid of one of the games best managers in Joe Maddon.
Texas Rangers- Manager Ron Washington resigned earlier this month due to personal reasons. Interim manager Tim Bogar is the runaway favorite for the job. Texas is also said to interview Mike Maddux and Steve Buechele.
Toronto Blue Jays- I'm not ruling out manager John Gibbons being axed, although word is out there that he will return next season. General manager Alex Anthopoulous will get some heat, especially since that big trade he made two winters ago with Miami did not work out.
Washington Nationals- Washington is in the playoffs, so there's no question Matt Williams will return next season.
